"In crafting and adopting County policy, it is imperative that the Board act responsibly to protect our environment."
Chairman Bulova believes protecting our environment is key to the quality of life in Fairfax County. Under her leadership, Fairfax County exceeded its tree canopy goal, successfully defended its stream restoration program, and received national recognition for its smart growth policies.
Maintaining strong environmental policies is one of Chairman Bulova's key objectives. Chairman Bulova created the first ever Private Sector Energy Task Force, and its recommendations were unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors. Under her leadership, Fairfax County also launched Energy Action Fairfax, a program designed to help residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes and save money.
Fairfax County, through a public-private partnership, maintains a waste-to-energy program that produces enough electricity to power 75,000 homes by burning household waste, and avoids up to 1 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
